General Job Description Summary:
As the Environmental, Health, and Safety Senior Manager, you will be responsible for leading and updating the safety function across a nationwide last-mile logistics network, with a primary focus on maintaining a robust, comprehensive safety program that aligns with federal, state, and local regulations. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, you will work cross-functionally with site leaders and regional managers to implement effective safety policies, processes, and compliance measures while ensuring the safety, well-being, and regulatory adherence of our workforce across diverse last-mile logistics and warehousing environments. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role requiring expertise in policy and process documentation, incident reporting, and regulatory compliance.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Safety Program Development and Execution:
- Lead the complete rebuild of the company’s EHS program, emphasizing comprehensive policy and process documentation.
- Design and implement an EHS management system that aligns with the company’s operational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Create and maintain a systematic approach for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating hazards across all locations and operational activities.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations, focusing on key markets, particularly California.
- Conduct regular audits to identify compliance gaps, proactively address deficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
- Establish reporting protocols for OSHA and other regulatory bodies, ensuring timely and accurate submission of all necessary documentation.
- Incident Reporting and Investigation:
- Develop and implement an incident reporting and investigation process that promotes transparency and accountability.
- Facilitate root-cause analysis and establish corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to reduce the recurrence of incidents.
- Track and analyze incident data, identify trends and opportunities for improvement, and report findings to executive leadership.
- Policy and Process Documentation:
- Establish a comprehensive repository of EHS policies and procedures, ensuring documentation is complete, accessible, and up to date.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to standardize operational safety practices and processes across all sites.
- Develop training materials to ensure site leaders and employees understand and follow documented safety policies.
- Safety Training and Culture Development:
- Drive a safety-first culture, integrating EHS principles into all aspects of operational processes.
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs tailored to all levels of employees and contractors, including compliance, hazard awareness, and incident response.
- Partner with site leaders to encourage engagement in safety programs and initiatives, promoting accountability at every level.
- Leadership and Collaboration:
- Act as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters, providing guidance, support, and resources to site leaders and employees.
- Collaborate with HR, Operations, and other departments to address EHS challenges, drive continuous improvement, and foster a proactive safety culture.
- Lead a small EHS team, if applicable, and work to grow the team’s competencies to align with the company’s evolving needs
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field; Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) are preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in EHS roles, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership capacity within warehousing, transportation, or logistics.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing EHS programs, policy documentation, and compliance initiatives across multiple locations.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, DOT, EPA), especially California-specific EHS requirements.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and project management skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse teams.
- Proficiency in incident management systems, regulatory reporting, and data analysis to drive EHS improvements.
